Any progress this summer?
I’ve started the package tray repair. But Spring and Summer projects outside have hindered progress. But I hope to make some progress soon.
As they say, film at 11:00
It was a rain day here in the great NorthWet, so I decided to do some work on the CJ Cougar. First, I stripped parts off the front fender. Something I should have doon a long time ago. The L/H fender had a slightly different shade Yellow extension on it. It appears who ever swapped in had no idea how to access the back side to remove the nuts and just cut new holes to get to them.
There is also damage as you can see here. I do have 2 more L/H front fenders that I can use. I doubt I’ll try to fix that little mess.
Then I decided to start stripping paint off the hood. I worked on about 2/3s of it only going to metal on maybe 20% of the hood. I knew it had that hole in the front center but didn’t realize it had previously repairs done to it.
It was getting a bit late and stopped here. I’ll need to make a tent before I go back to it. So I sprayed some sealer on it for now.
I’ll get back on to it maybe tomorrow. I need to do some shopping first though. That Metal Conditioner does work well, it’s a lot faster than a sander, not as expensive as having it stripped with media, soda or dipped. May not be as good in the long run. But it has to fit my budget.
I’ve been curious about that paint stripper. Will be a great timesaver if it doesn’t carve deep gouges into the steel! Finish looks decent in the pics!
Tent and respirator are a good idea with all that lead paint dust.
I got the work tent done earlier today.
Complete with a power strip, fan and an 8 foot LED light.
Aft3er dinner I plan to go down to the shop and give it a good work out.
I finished stripping the hood.
I did not remove the primer I sprayed yesterday. I may in the AM before I primer the rest of it,
Stripping the rest of the hood only took maybe 45 minutes,
And produced a good 2 inches of dust in this bucket.
I hope to put a day a week into this project for the next month or so, That I hope will make some positive progress on this resurrection.
Thanks for stopping by.
It’s time for a update in what has (not) been going on with this project.
More to come after a minor setback.
I did get the R/H fender stripped as well as the hood before the setback happened.
Very sorry to hear of your injury, Neal. Take it easy and rest in knowing that your car will wait until you get the all-clear! Are you able to drive Ginger without full use of your shift arm?
Thanks, I am trying the best I can to follow the Dr’s instructions. I had her out a couple weeks ago for a short drive to the local Cars and Coffee. The shifter is easy enough and in the right location for me to drive her. But with the Monsoon season on us she will be getting the battery tender installed and covered until a nice day comes along.
Keep your head up. Set backs are apart of life. @DeadCougarGarage is where you can see my car in action.
Take it easy and get well Neal. Takes forever to heal as we get older so don’t overdo it.
Definitely do that! It will help you heal in a more timely manner rather than re-injuring yourself.
I made the mistake of “oh, doing this one thing won’t make a difference”… but it sure as heck did! Doc was like "we aren’t seeing the progress we expected after this amount of time”. And I’m like “Umm… yeah, that’s probably because I was a bad boy…”
D’oh!
