1968 XR-7 NON GT

This Cat is an early 1968 XR-7. Produced September 1st. 1967 and given #838. The motor is a 390 motor and C-6 Automatic transmission. The motor is not original to the car nor is the transmission. The motor is an original Cougar 1968 390 2v and it’s C-6 transmission. The motor is a core motor and so is the transmission.

Included are: exhaust manifolds and a 4 bbl manifold, and the original 2V carb.

The original 9" rear end and 3:25 open (non posi) is there.

The car has 2 big issues. The pass floor is rusted and will have to be replaced. The car also was hit on the driver side (see the replacement door) and damaged the rocker. I can include a replacement rocker cut from another 1968 Cougar

Condition: Car has been sitting outside for many years. The story I was told is the motor went bad and it was parked in 1976. This Cat is very original overall. Motor and trans being the only non original major items on the car. Inside is rough, but windows were closed, and a sunshade put in the windshield. Aside from the above-mentioned rust this is a very clean and solid car. Surface rust is what you see and no holes on body or door rust. The shock tower tops are extremely clean also. A solid car to bring back to life!

Thanks, Bill

I may be missing something related to this being an early GT, but the GT Option package is not listed. Is this actually an S-code non-GT?

Hmmm very interesting!
I had not caught that…nor did anyone else! I had to do some detective work to figure things out. I looked at the GT emblems on the car. They are attached w/ nuts from behind, so the fenders must have come off the car early on it life.

I did learn something, I did not know that the holes in the fenders fit both the 6.5 bagde AND the holes line up perfectly for the letters “G” and “T”…

So, there is a great chance this is NOT a GT, but just a 68 XR-7 390 4 BBl auto Cat.

The car is still for sale, and hopefully someone will be interested enough. I am asking less than the major parts are worth.I really hate to see another Cat be parted out…

Please help this Cat live for another 44+years!

Thanks for keeping me on my toes! :bloated:
