I’ve been a Cougar nut since 1969 when I was a kid in LA and my dad bought a lime frost 67 XR7. But somehow I missed this movie and the cool red Cougar. Thanks for sharing it’s interesting history!
Glad to hear it, that’s a great running car. If you speak to them, let them know I still have the original radiator (recored w/larger tubes) available. If I kept the car, my plan was to replace the radiator & fuel sender w/the originals, and install a Scott Fuller exhaust.
I contacted Bonham and they confirmed that this car is 9F94R 549292.
I understand that even though this was the third car ordered for OHMSS, this is the car (549292) that was used in the early scene filmed at the Hotel Palacio Estoril in Portugal.
I participated in a re-creation of that scene with a very-correct Aston Martin DBS and my (not really close substitute) 68 XR7 at the Fairmont Hotel in SF. The Fairmont was nice enough to dress up the front with international flags and allow stand in actors. Good fun!

Would have been waaaaay better with the real 69 CJ!!!
First off this is NOT a Bond car even though it has been portrayed as in in the past as discussed in many posts. That being said this has been a wonderful purchase.
Wow! I was high bid at $90k yesterday. Darn, guess I can quit the project of clearing out the space in the shop. The commission Bonhams charge is over 20%!!!
Sold for more than I was guessing by a long shot. Extra bottle of Champaign for the auction house…
It would seem that the movie provenance added $300k +/- to the car. I would like to suggest that the next Bond film involve time travel back to '69 with James borrowing a green, Q-code convertible for a collision-free chase scene.
My guess is that the fact that at least one was destroyed in the film helped increase the value of the best quality survivor. It can be hard to price the “best” offering if there isn’t a close alternative.
