1969 Cougar XR7 Brake lights and Flasher

The issue I’m having is my brake lights will not work. I recently finished the restoration on my 69 cougar and all was working as it should. When I drove it to my storage unit I found out I had lost my flashers and my brake lights. I tested the brake light switch and replaced the can for the flasher which was getting power also then went to the rear of the car and unplugged the board and checked the wire coming out and was getting power when I hit the brake pedal. And when I turned on the flashers all 3 lights on the passenger side were flashing and the driver’s side was dim and flashing in sequence. After reading a few threads on the internet the general consensus was it was a bad turn signal switch. I installed it today which did not solve the problem. I’m totally lost considering everything was working.

“Recently finished restoration” says to me check the grounds on all areas of the harnesses. Like fire wall, dash, tail panel. The paint sometimes blocks a good connection or a fastener has come loose on the shakedownrides. I am not familiar with any of the specific places to check on your year but maybe someone else could.

Thanks

A meter will tell you what you need to know if you know how to use one. Light bulbs are pretty simple, they need power and ground to function. One of those is not present.

I used a meter and am getting power when i press on the brake

You have power but chances are you don’t have ground.

Im goin g to check again i have an extra harness and sequence board

The taillights ground to a screw between the taillights and below the trunk latch. Make sure you have clean shiny metal for the lug and screw to ground through.

I figured it out i had the green and green and white reversed on the plug.

Thanks for all the input.
