1973 Standard Chrome side molding

Ok, I have a 1973 Standard. I was wondering if the side trim is stock or was added after the fact. I was thinking about redoing the trim and found some close on Amazon but didn’t know if this was original to the car or added at dealerships.

Definitely not stock. Very popular dealer add on

Body shops would often add the trim when the customer had door dings repaired.

Not trying to cause controversy here, but the Marti report for the car I am working on clearly says body side molding. Additionally I have a partial of the original window sticker and the 2nd line from the bottom says Protective *something?" Molding. Unless I am misunderstanding something, it appears that my car came from the factory with body side moldings.

No idea on the molding, but that’s a very clean and original looking Cougar. Nice!!

Do you happen to have a close up picture of what your factory original body side moldings look like?

I stand corrected. They did exist as a factory option as of February 1 1972. $30.05.
The last Cougar convertible had them and is pictured exiting the factory with them installed.
