390 head replacement

Can the 390 heads be removed and reinstalled with the engine in the car? Has anyone attempted this? If so any tips?

Yes it can be done. The factory shop manual instructions are excellent. I don’t have a copy with me but follow them and it is not terrible. Removing the intake is half the battle.

“Removing the intake is half the battle …” ha ha ha That’s probably why the intake for the FE engines is nicknamed “the Battleship.”

I use my engine lift to pull the intake. Save your back!
