67 Complete Restoration

Vision I had for mine was totally stock looking exterior with perhaps an eliminator spoiler and completely modern interior and drive line.

Not in the cards right now so I’m making plans to get it in the garage and at least do tear down and cleaning over the winter.

I’ll be doing the fuel system just as you just did soon. Right now I’m running it off the catch bottle!

I need a new tank as mine is dented/rusted but I may make an attempt to save the fuel line. Depends on what kind of crud I see coming out of it.

If it’s still solid, I may fill it with solvent to see if I can save it.

Your stuff looks pretty good.

Hey if it works, it works! I had a makeshift tank mounted on my garage door that dropped straight to the carb. I only ran it a few times like that to hear her run for a sec. One thing I can say that I’ve learned from the fuel system is dont blow air through the fuel line lol. I did that to check for leaks and right where it curves from the tank was a break, so I got a face full of rust dust. I just thought it would be best to spend the 250-300 bucks on having everything new and not having to worry about it again. Then I know it’s all done properly and I will know every spot to look if theres any malfunctions. I’ll get some more pics later but I ran a pressure gauge in the line as well and that looks pretty nice.

New fuel tank installed
No pics underneath but did the fuel tank, tank to pump fuel line, fuel pump, pump to carb line with a fuel pressure gauge in between.

Been hard at work for a few months. I’m kind of all over the place waiting for a welder to come patch up the floors but here’s some progress pics. I’ve been focusing alot on the back end and getting that all finished up.

Hey everyone!
Well it’s been a very long journey so far with this car. Having to move mid restoration, being broke, etc. But I am finally getting to the point where having it at least moving on the road by Halloween is alot more realistic. Not finished, but at least on the road. I had a question for any tire experts here. I bought some d hole nascar wheels for the car and am waiting til I finish the brakes until I put the tires on but I work at a Porsche shop and there was a complete set of front and rear tires upstairs which probably go to a Porsche but maybe someone can weigh in.
I believe the wheels I purchased were 15x7 fronts and 15x9 rears. Will these tires work okay for me?
Kumho 225/50r15 rear
Kumho 205/50r15 fronts.
I know this is more a question for the tire shop but I thought Id check if anyone so happens to have used the same size.
Thanks!
JD

I would go with a taller tire, but that is just me.

225 width is about right for a 7 inch wheel. You can go wider, but not sure how much. There has to be a calculator on line somewhere for tire sizes and wheels.

9 inch rear wheels may be too wide for the rears. Have you test fit them?

Good morning CougarCJ!
Thank you for the advice, I get so confused with tires, backspacing, etc. I definitely wanted to get the cooper cobras on mine but I’m using whatever I can as long as it works to hit my Halloween goal of having it on the road. I haven’t test fit them yet but I could be wrong on the size. I bought them used pretty early in the build just to have them and now the craigslist info is gone. I brought them with me today to bring to the tire shop to see if they’re a good match. I’ll keep everyone posted on the results today!

They work!!! They are definitely not as tall and meaty as I was hoping for but I do plan on driving the shit out of this car so they are good for burnouts til they die and I buy a proper set. As for these tires they should work. They fit around the wheel very well but I won’t know until I actually have them on the car and lower the jack. I’ll keep everyone posted!

I have decided to hire an extra set of hands to help with the engine work while I’m working on the rest of the car. I had very little hope for how the engine internals would look but shockingly enough, the timing chain, crank, and oil pan were all clean. No shinyness in the oil and no crazy rust. Next weekend hopefully my extra set of hands will be back and we can finish the engine and install all the new parts. I thought I’d show some engine pics but the rest of the car will hopefully be debuted on Halloween!

That chain has enough slack in it that I’d replace it. Too easy to do while you are in there…

But I bet you are buttoned up by now.

Hey hey man,
Thank you for the advice! We were actually debating if we should replace it due to the amount of play. We decided to look deeper into it to see the specs but you just made my decision lol. Luckily I haven’t put it all back together yet so I’ll go pickup the replacement chain and sprockets and just get that done while we’re there. The shitty hold up is the broken stud at the bottom of the timing cover. I’m hoping there’s enough meat on it to weld a bolt on to get it out, then we can finally start putting the engine back together.

While it’s probably not enough play to mess much with the valve timing, it’s enough that I’d wonder about ignition timing jumping around a bit.

Timing chain sets are “cheap” and you’re there so might as well.
