Got the other 1/4 ready to go on, hopefully in the next week or so I can put the roof on.
Might consider applying some sound deadener now if you can get it to stick to that finish. May or may not work now. That is unless you are doing some modification with sound pads and the like in the future.
Got the other 1/4 on, trunk lid has good gap
Finished prepping roof and removing not needed pieces of metal, it’s going on tomorrow, this car doesn’t have any of its own original exterior sheet metal but the replacements are all original Ford parts.
I guess it will survive, fits like a glove.
Watching your Cougar come together consistently amazes me. Nice work. Incredible.
It’s like watching a Cougar be reborn. I hope the weather holds out for you at least a little while longer.
Got all the joints ready for welding tomorrow and then I’m going to put it up for now but the next step is to remove the taillight panel which I did not weld in yet and replace the trunk sides and drops .
Put up for now
It’s starting to look like a Cougar. Congrats on all the hard work.
You are going to be a pro welder after this project. Tell us what you are using for equipment as far as welder, jacket, gloves, hood etc.
Nothing special a Miller 140 auto set, and an automatic helmet from Harbor freight, I hope to have the other metal work done by spring so I can put it on the rotisserie and get it sandblasted and epoxy primed
Picking the rear end apart to get it in before snow flies, depressing- springs are rusted in the rubber, I was going to have them re- arched, I have a pair but I don’t know if they are small block or big block, I’ll have to see if i can find a number, from what iv read on here no one seems to be happy with the new ones
You are doing a fantastic job Randy.
If it’s any consolation my car was similar to the condition of yours and I am getting closer to the end every day.
I like the title you were given ECI,I am your British equivalent, especially as I live on the east coast in the UK.
I know this is meant as a compliment and when you have the tiger(cougar) by the tail you have just got to keep going.
It will all be worth it in the end.
I also know the problems with aftermarket rear leaf springs.
I bought mine 14 years ago from Mustangs unlimited.
I have just fitted them and drivers side is nearly 1 inch down on passenger.
Got to find a specialist firm to re arch them now.
Keep up the good work, will be watching your progress
All the best
Paul
Thank you, I was in Plymouth in 79 you near there?
The other pair is worse and visibly thinner I was able to find a number so I got something to work with.
I used springs from ESPO on three cars. Two small, one big block. All three had ride height at factory spec when done. I was happy. All were 69s.
About 5 hours drive south west to Plymouth from me.
ESPO site looks like a good option thanks for the input , and they are close
Making preparations to work on trunk area, I would have liked to see these two items being made, they are about most complicated pressed and formed pieces I can think of
