Ok I could use some help on this.
I replaced the carpet and am reinstalling the consule and for the life of me I can’t close this gap on the shifter.
It bolts on too the shifter on a couple of plastic nubs and the consule goes on to the top leaving this gap.
It wasen’t like this when I took it apart. The manuel & build book only show 3 or 4 speed consoles.
Here is a picture of mine. It looks like the shifter plate is too far towards the rear. Is your shifter in park? My shifter, when in park, is toward the top of the trim bezel. I just reassembled my console and it took a few tries to get it positioned correctly. The plastic positioning pins, for the shifter plate, may not be seated in the right spot.
It looks like this? The plastic nubs hold it together…I think. I made one out of a j-box cover.
Edit: wccc has a tip-

This looks like you attached it to the bottom of the consule? Instead of the shifter.
It’s attached to the dial housing assembly, which is attached to the console. Not the shifter.
It’s on p. 7-69 in my shop manual.
Seems like you’re missing a couple screws. Take the top pad back off and see.
The dial housing assembly should be attached with 4 screws from the top down through the console into the assembly to hold it up against the console.
