What a beautiful and badass Cougar! I couldn’t find the video from Pass Time, but apparently this is the same car…do we know this guy?
G68, cool video. Here’s the link to it on Pass Time. It starts off as the same as your link and Pass Time starts at about :42. http://youtube.com/watch?v=uYRHllh_9Oc&feature=relmfu . John
A true 429CJ Cougar? Didn’t Mercury only make two of those for those two drag racers?
Not sure if he was here on this site or MC.net. It is a really nice cougar and may be in Australia.
Looks like Rodney’s old Eliminator but his was stick
That’s awesome Puma! Thanks for finding that! When I was watching the video I looked over to the right at the suggested videos and found this one…Shooting the Cougars and Kittens Calendar…I think there may be some Cougars in the video, but I never saw them!
Two Boss 429 cars were built. 429 CJ is a whole other engine.
It sure sounds to me like when they’re interviewing him he says “ram air 428”.
Also the drag was a false start. Car moving before the green. No?
It did sound like he said 428. I dont think it was a false start. If anything it looked a little late, IMO Car was probably probably loading up!
The start in the drag at the end, after the interview, was a bit late. But the drag at the very beginning, the car is moving before the green light hits
I think the Cougar moves…just loading up the launch. I see the pre-stage light, staged light, tree drop and a green light. Good race, if he left early there would have been a red light. It’s all about timing the light before green. Mean Cougar for sure! Very cool!!!

Ahhh yes, I thought you were talking the Pass Time race. Sorry. But the car was probably loading up. Still ya never leave on the green. usually the bulb above. car takes time to move ahead to break the beams! if it was to early the red would flash
You can move before the green, but you can’t leave the stage beam before… I drag race my cars (bracket racing) quite often! The ‘roll-out’ (time between stage beam cut until the tire rolls forward enough that the tire rolls out of the beam) is dependent on a number of factors, but anyway, it can be 6-10 inches!!! So yes, the car CAN be moving before the green!!!
Is this why you see some racers write “DEEP” on there windows? to let folks know how far they would like to stage??
Deep stage: to roll a few inches farther into the beams after staging, which causes the pre-stage lights to go out. In that position, a driver is closer to the finish line but dangerously close to a foul start.
I always had that backwards… I thought that deep staging meant you were as far away from the from beam as possible so you could be moving at about 5 mph when you broke the beam. Of course this means you have to start rolling before the green.
Looks like Rodney’s old Eliminator but his was stick
Could possibly be my old eliminator, I do know it was raced in the US before coming to Australia and was fitted with half cage and recarros but I am unsure if they were fitted before or after coming here, The running gear was pulled before it left the US and I do know the toplader was fitted here as I still have what is beleived to be the orignal FMX to the car and the engine that was fitted here before I fitted the Ford Racing Engine, I would love to know for sure but would need to know the Vin No. on that car.
Cheers Rodney
