69 xr-7 convertible rear wheelwell dents

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me if ‘dents’ are normal on the rear wheelwell of a 69 xr7 convertible? When viewing from inside the trunk, you can see where the top of the wheel well has been dented. I don’t know if this is normal or ? seems strange to me, but maybe was orig design? An expert told me it was meant to be that way. Also, I’m trying to determine if my car was ever seriously hit in the rear. Is there anything obvious I should look for? BTW, the dents are on both sides, on top where body support brackets are mounted. If requested, I can take a few photos to help clarify.

Thanks,

Yep! Normal and handmade in my estimation. Hideous, huh?

? I’m gonna have to look now.

That’s the way mine are too. I think it was to add some room for the top to lay down.

Can you imagine the guy whose supervisor told him to “take this big fn hammer and beat the crap out of the wheel well on that brand new car…”

That was the funnest part of my convertible conversion. I briefly toyed with the idea of making some kind of jig to make a nice smooth indentation but in the end just beat the wee out of it with a BFH. My wife thought I’d lost my senses.
