Air Cleaner Housing

Looking for an OEM air cleaner housing for a 1971 XR7 351 4 BBL

So

Really not sure if they are the same
but I have one off my original 1970 XR7 351C 4v
I may part with

Thanx!

Let me check if that is the same one, if so I would be interested. How much?

Well

Is it the correct one?

Someone painted it black years ago other then that it’s in good shape. Will need to be repainted.

I can send pics if you need them!

Here is a possible answer ( I hope ) to your questions.

According to the MPC the part numbers are different for the 1969 Windsor and Cleveland ( engine ) air cleaner assembly.
The 1971 part number ( for all 351 engines ) is different, again.

The only thing in common between the 1970 and 1971 air cleaners is for the 2 Barrel Windsor air cleaner dimensions and the dimensions for the 1971 351’s. So maybe a ‘trial’ fit of a 1970 Windsor air cleaner onto a 1971 351 V-8 might definitively answer
the question - maybe ( with any degree of luck ) any ‘fitment’ issue has to do with the snorkel portion of the air cleaner ?
Or maybe it has to do with the profile on the bottom of the air cleaner base, where is sits atop the carburetor ?

Here are the air cleaners “by the numbers” :

(1) 1970 351C p/n is D0ZZ-9600-M. 17.00" diameter and 4.20" high. ( Notes ‘a’ and ‘d’ from the MPC )
(2) 1970 351W p/n is D0OZ-9600-B. 17.84" diameter and 4.20" high. ( Notes ‘a’ , ‘d’ , ‘m’ and ‘n’ from the MPC )
(3) 1971 351 V-8 ( all ) p/n is D1AZ-9600-F. 17.84" diameter and 4.20" high ( Notes ‘a’ , ‘d’ and ‘r’ from the MPC )

Here’s the MPC ‘notes’ :

‘a’ = wing nut 1/4"-20 ( air cleaner to carb ) 358871-S ( MM297A )
‘d’ = stud 1/4"-20 X 5/16"-18 X 3 13/16" ( air cleaner to carb ) 370971-S ( WW100 )
‘m’ = elbow [ use in air cleaner to connect hose ( 6853 ) ] p/n : C8AZ-6767-A
‘n’ = grommet [ use in air cleaner to retain elbow ( 6767 ) ] p/n : C8AZ-6A892-A
‘r’ = elbow 5/8" X 3/4" - 90°. Nylon - crankcase vent 384411-S ( II-187 CF )

All the hardware numbers and FoMoCo p/n’s ( in the MPC notes ) still show as available with a
Google search, as Reproduction or still available as Ford OEM.

Good luck with the ‘hybridization’ of your air cleaner assembly !

No 351C for 1969

(2) 1969 351W p/n is D0OZ-9600-B. 17.84" diameter and 4.20" high. ( Notes ‘a’ , ‘d’ , ‘m’ and ‘n’ from the MPC )

Note the 1970 part number, S/B 1969/70 replacement for 1969.

(3) 1971 351 V-8 ( all ) p/n is D1AZ-9600-F. 17.84" diameter and 4.20" high ( Notes ‘a’ , ‘d’ and ‘r’ from the MPC )

Good luck with the ‘hybridization’ of your air cleaner assembly !

The 70 and 71 Cleveland air cleaner base and lid ae the same. The snorkel is not the same. And out side of the sticker they are the same for a 2V or a 4V. It should not be to hard to find the correct parts for one for your Cougar. I have a 70/71 base and lid but no snorkel.

My error. I have a 1969 Cougar XR-7 and am so fixated on it ( who isn’t ) that I accidentally typed in 1969 for both the 1970 351C and the 1970 351 -2/B ( W ). I have corrected my post. All the other numbers and data is correct, at least according to the MPC !
For what it’s worth, the 1969 351 (W) air cleaner assembly has a 17.84" diameter X 4.20" high and has part number C8AZ-9600-D.

Been there done that and did it on my last post.

(2) 1969 351W p/n is D0OZ-9600-B. 17.84" diameter and 4.20" high. ( Notes ‘a’ , ‘d’ , ‘m’ and ‘n’ from the MPC )
Note the 1970 part number, S/B 1969/70 replacement for 1969.

The size is the same between 1969 and 70, but the breather elbow is swaged on metal on the 69 unit and is a plastic one held on with the grommet on the 70/71+

Nothing like a good senior moment now and then.

I hope your July 4th is going well.

So,

Mine is complete with top, bottom and snorkel

It’s the only thing I have left from my 1970 XR7 Cougar I bought in 1986. Just recently sold the drive train from it, body went years ago

Actually wish very much I had it back, It was equipped with a factory sun/moon roof. Not sure how many were available that year but I assume not many.

Have no Idea what the assembly is worth, any one have an idea please share

Thanx!

Joe
