I spent most of today trying to get my new master cylinder bled.I’m not having any luck at all with it.the front reservoir is fine no bubbles coming from it but the rear one has been a pain in my a$$.no matter how many times I push on the piston I still get air coming from the rear only one or two bubbles.my master didn’t include the fittings and plastic lines to go back into the master but 2 plugs instead.according to the instructions I’m to fill the master and allow fluid to seep from the sides.then install the plugs and depress the piston 3/4" to an inch until there are no bubbles and the piston will only go in about 1/8".well after 45 min. I gave up.I talked to a mechanic and he said go ahead and install it on the booster but leave the lines off and use the pedal to bleed it instead of my sore arms.well I still have bubbles coming from the rear reservoir.anyone have any suggestions?I’ve never had this many problems bleeding a master before.
Heres what I do and it has always worked Take a piece of old brake line withe a fitting for the master cylinder and attach a length of hose to it running to a clear jar half full of fluid. Make sure the end of the hose remains below the surface and pump away at it. Keep the master cylinder full and watch the jar for the bubbles to stop I think the open line thing isn’t working because it still sucks air back in after each pump.
Thanks,I’ll give that a try.my arms are still sore from bench bleeding yesterday.
Thanks again Yorgle it worked like a charm.within a minute it didn’t have any bubbles coming out of it.managed to get all the brakes bled now will wait till tomorrow to see how good they are.
Fair warning, they won’t feel like “modern” brakes!!!
anything is better than the almost non existent brakes I had before
They might not feel like modern brakes but they work great in my case (power disc on front). One thing I haven’t tried is locking them up and skidding to a stop but I’m confident they can do it, as they’re plenty strong in all the driving I’ve done.
Ya I’ve got power discs as well but all they would do is slow me down and eventually I’d stop.my wife kept complaining that I drive like an old man and wouldn’t give it any gas.I told her going fast isn’t a problem but stopping is.just have to wait till the weekend when all the rain is done and take it out for a test drive.
