What part of the world are you in? If you are in the Northwest I have a complete 9 inch rear axle out of a 1970 Cougar, I’d make you a deal on if you are interested. It a open with 2.75 gears.

It will work fine until it doesnt! IMO part of the fun is upgrading as you go along, Drop in the motor and enjoy until you find the next weak link, sure you can do better with an upgraded transmission and rear end but you may find out it works just fine for your driving style. Eventually you may find you want to push it harder and need better parts. The nice thing is these cars are so easy to work on swapping engines or transmission is no big deal.
