Boss 429 Cougar

The first 1969 BOSS 429 Mustangs actually started out as “Q” codes prior to Dearborn utilizing “Z” during assembly, where the Cougars were all “R” codes. The two “race” Cougars were both “R” code standard (91) non Eliminators while the “prototype” in the picture started life as a “R” code XR7 (93).

Personally I think the Cougar and Torino were better platforms with the longer wheel base. But Ford never did like the Mustang to have to compete with anyone else. They hated it when the Cougars beat up on them in TransAm.

I’m way behind the power curve here, but Doug Herzog is restoring the Schartman car. If you are on Facebook, he has a page showing his progress,

Vintage magazine article on the Schartman Cougar with a pic inside the engine bay.

Yes, that’s the one. New engine in the bay!

It’s alive

Apparently the car is getting driven soon! They loaded it on the trailer-https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/p720x720/120553543_10221143168361020_6424174027744816191_o.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_sid=b9115d&_nc_ohc=1eqUxRjyd70AX_0TR2f&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&tp=6&oh=a55e90a2131f0717d458fed8de1e511d&oe=5F9C3270
