Read the above posts and it will be clear. The applique would not stretch around those compound curves so well.
OOP’s sorry about that, I do remember now reading that when it was first posted, but it has slipped my mind since, Great memory, just short sometimes.
Ya that steering wheel center would be dicey but for the rest of the stuff it would be golden!!
Ran into a hiccup… Had no problem getting the local sign company to do the 69-70 radio bezel applique, console applique and 68 over-head console applique but because of the concave nature of the 1969 xr7 steering wheel insert they cannot get an exact fit on this one as my directions were “perfect or nothing”. Anyone have another cost efficient idea?
Have they tried to heat the film and then stretch it over, or would this compromise the glue?
Here is my attempt at restoring a 68 XR7 Gauge bezel. Total time in polishing lenses with NOVUS plastic polish and applying applique was about 2 hrs. My guy that does the spray on chrome is still not able to do it in any quantities but it WILL happen or I will find someone else! I got antsy and did not repaint the black bezels… I would say this looks good and if your car is not original it is a decent substitute for not much money. Lin and a couple of others say it looks better than original. Opinions?
I agree, it looks better to me too. But then I’ve never been accused of being a purist. Is this available yet for the 67 and 68? I’m ready.
Here was my attemt at the console insert.
Don, I agree that the burlwood looks better than the original. But it would be nice to have the choice of this one or one that recreates the original. While I was OK with burlwood for CatVert, I’d have to stick with the original for BBCat since I’ve kept that very stock.
