C6 Transmission Identification

The letters in the left column ( after the model year ) refer to the car lines to which the part is applicable.

A= Mercury ( Ford )
C= Comet ( Falcon )
D= Lincoln ( Marquis )
F= Cougar ( Mustang )
K= Mark III ( and although the T-bird was based on the same platform it was given the body line “S” )

Hope this helps you.

Full size Mercury is code A
Comet / Cyclone is code C
Cougar is code F
Not sure about the others.

I think you are correct. There is no way you can rebuild one of these without owning a transmission overhaul manual.

A, C, D, F, K refers to car line. Cougar and Mustang are “F”.

If you’re really after an R servo kit, you can obtain one aftermarket: https://broaderperformance.com/product/r-code-servo-kit/
And even though this can be changed out externally, it doesn’t make sense without the improved lever. And of course a full inspection of the trans…

I’ve been told - but never tried it - that if you use any of the lesser levers with the R servo that it results in a broken apply lever.
