Carburetor issue

I had the air cleaner off and noticed the choke plate and the secondaries on my edelbrock 1406 were coated in soot! The primaries are clean. The car has been running fine. I hit it with carb cleaner and it came off. So gang, what’s up with just the secondaries being trashed?

When you shut your hot engine of the hot vaporized fuel in the manifold will attach to whatever it comes in contact with. We called it varnish back in the day.:slightly_smiling_face:

Good ol’ Italian tune up doesn’t hurt either!!!

Ahh yes, the old Shaboom tune

Did some reading, I’ve got heat soak also, so I just finished installing a 5/16 nitrile rubber insulator under the carb (edelbrock 12410). Supposed to reduce heat transfer from the engine to the carb.

We will see. As for the soot on the secondaries, all cleaned up, 1 pound can of gum out and looks like new!
