had it 15 years figured its time to finish it. First got wasn’t going to media blast it but it was in sad shape and found more problems,I have been nickle and dimeing it since them so its time to finish it before it turns 50. yes its an eliminator m code.

I’ve resolved myself to the cost, it’s just the time that I can’t get over. The good local shop is so backed up I might not see it again for a year. There’s a hobbyist in Austin who says he can take it down to metal and do it in 4-5 weeks. He seems legit, but I’m still not excited about driving it to a town three hours away and dropping my car off with a stack of cash.

Sounds like a really bad idea. Get a couple hundred references first.

have to agree,

my body guy took longer then that and we did not go to metal or strip the car. I supplied the car stripped ready for body work along with doing some of the assembly. the biggest plus here was his shop was around the corner from mine so I could stop in anytime and check on the progress personally and verify I was happy with the work. He was one to not put a time from on the progress because he wanted it to be right. I stopped in a couple times to find him redoing something since he was not happy with it.

3 hrs away would be hard to to that.

jetexas. Shop around should be somebody closer, like this guy he does them like a side job and fill in slow times but gets them done. Hes had this about 2 months and is almost done for what hes doing, maybe a week or so.
I would think Houston area would have alot of shops?

My Eliminator was sand blasted, rust repaired and the whole floor plus one rear qtr unpicked and replaced from a doner car then painted.
All up 30k AUD, probably around 25% less in US dollars. That is the most I have ever spent on any body work / paint and probably explains why so many previous owners didn’t do the restoration.
Ive also over capitalised on what the car will ever be worth but so be it
