Hey guys, I have my new instrument cluster and dash pad all installed except for the trim pieces that hold the dash pad down at the windshield. I am pretty sure these trim strips should be the color of the dash pad, and NOT the color of the car…am I thinking right?
I want to say that they are trim black, but I’m going strictly on memory. But if not black, I’d expect them to match the pad.
The trim pieces from my car are same color as my dashpad, Maroon. John
OK thanks guys…I have to agree that they should match the pad…they look like they were the same as the split apart disgusting old pad I threw away a few months ago…trim black wouldn’t look bad though Catvert!
I also believe the trim should match the pad. However not all interiors seem to have received the same color pad even with the same interior color. Case in point I have 2 G-cars both Lime Frost with Dark Ivy Gold Interiors. The s-code with 60k original unmolested miles has a Black dash pad and black trim pieces and the rear window inside trim is green. However on the j-code, it originally had a green dash pad and dark green inside trim in the front and the back. I guess nothing was set in stone back in the day. They did whatever they could to keep the assembly line moving.
I know what you mean Scott, my '68 is Caribbean Blue Metallic with light aqua interior, dark aqua carpet, and my dash pad is dark blue…at first it is an odd look, but it grows on ya…I have wondered if I made a mistake on the color of the dash but I have to remind myself that it was done in the '60s…
FWIW, my original blue dash pad had blue trim metal…back window trim was also blue…
It seems to be unanimous…color matching dash pad to trim it is…wtf is spell check on this? Unanimous isn’t something I try to spell every day!
thanks for your help guys, my car has been apart so long that I have forgotten what more than a few things are and how they go back on so I will have a lot more questions over the next couple months. I WILL be driving it by late spring! disclaimer I said that last year too.
LOL, I said that every year…just takes time. The forgetting what more than a few things are…the manuals(shop and assembly) help some, but I don’t think ANYTHING helped more than all the accumulated knowledge on tap on the forums.
You got that right! Even though the Classic Cougar Community is made up of a collection of hooligans, goofballs, beer swillers, and the occasional red neck and Canuk there is a helluva collection of knowlege here! Here’s to every one of us!
I’ll drink to that! Oh…wait, already am…bugger. Ok, I’ll drink some more to that!
It’s my topic I’ll take it off if I want to…by the way…does anyone remember what the topic was? It was about frosty mugs of Boston Lager wasn’t it?
I had one of those at dinner tonight! Sam Adams Boston Lager, that is…at Reeeeeeeeeeeeeed Robin…YUM…(kid-friendly, decent food, for a b-day dinner!)
