Eliminators on the Market (June 2022)

Sold for $60k!

That’s an exceptional result for the seller, her 71 Cobra did really well too. FYI the owner was Canted 393 on these forums, if the buyer is on here - his post history has some more details about the car.

Seems like a lot of money until you consider a new Bronco I looked at was $60k.

My question is: is the higher-than-expected sale price the result of it being a resto-mod?

We’ve touched on resto-mod Eliminators in the past, but I think this is the first Eliminator that has come up for sale that really pushes into “resto-mod” territory.

I’m with you Mike - be interesting to know what if we have a new trend here - that’s good money for a 70 351C Eliminator

I would echo the opinion of the selling price being exceptional for this car. Resto-mod upward driven price?.. hard to say. Maybe the successful buyer just wanted this particular Eliminator because of color comb, along with the whole package? It’s been awhile since Joe V. and I spoke about this car when he was the owner / seller. From memory, this Eliminator was pretty much in original form then. Can’t recall his asking price, but I think it was reasonable at that point in time.

How restomoded could it be with an FMX? I would be surprised if they kept a small gear like 3.00 in a reinforced 9" housing. Any gear bigger than 3.00 is irritating to drive over 55. Seems like they did some flashy stuff or magazine type of recommendations…but a restomod?----eh…a little perhaps. The first thing a restomod gets is an OD trans. Keeping an FMX or any 3 speed in a modded car is giving up a good portion of performance either on top or the bottom.

I found it somewhat interesting (assuming the masking is consistent) that the same bidder won roughly 525k worth of vehicles in this auction. Will be curious to see if any of these are available down the road or if it’s someone getting out of the stock market, maybe?

or bid tampering.

Possibly a dealer buying things up? If so, $60k seems an excessive amount to pay for a 351 Eliminator, if your goal is to profit and double your money on it.

Just spotted this one

*Do your due diligence. Pics from an inspection performed in Aug 2016. Note the paint color on the unrestored body…

I spoke with the owner when this Coug was previously listed…probably a year+ ago. Same photo set then & now… copied and saved them on our PC.
Mike B. also offered helpful info pertaining to this car at that time. Likely a rebody :problem:

Mystery solved, indeed dealer purchased. Baffling prices to pay just to try to sell them again at markup.

Thanks for the head’s up!

I guess if they can make $5-10k on it, that will keep the lights on for the month!
