You’re not a traitor, hence the name “MoparDon”.

100_0448-1.JPG[/attachment]As good as my F350 Crew, 97, 7.3 diesel is sometimes it just won’t get there!!
Whoops!
Now the waiting starts. Delivery estimate is 6-8 weeks out, possibly more.
I plan to keep this truck for a long time so I ordered exactly what I wanted. Here’s what I ordered:
2012 F-350 XLT SuperCab 4x4 6-3/4’ Bed
- 6.2L Gas Engine
3.73 Electronic Locking Rear Axle
10,000 GVWR Package
XLT Premium Package (includes 18" chrome wheels, chrome trim, Sync, LCD Productivity Screen, electrochromatic mirror, and a bunch of other stuff)
Snowplow Prep Package
4x4 Shift-on-the-Fly
Roof Clearance Lights
Power Scope Trailer Tow Mirrors
Reverse Vehicle Aid Sensor
Rearview Camera
Here’s a picture of what it will look like in Golden Bronze (except as a SuperCab rather than a crew cab) once I have my restorer friend Dave paint the lower accent color as shown:
That will be a nice truck. Always fun to buy a new vehicle.
Not familiar with the 3.73 Electronic Locking Rear Axle.
Is that like an Air Locker except it’s electronic?
Here’s a description of an electronic locking rear axle:
An electronic locking differential, or ELocker in Eatonese, engages electronically with the touch of a button when the driver determines a need for more traction. The button sends an electromagnetic signal to an armature, engaging a ball bearing ramp that pushes pins into the back side of the gear and locks the axle. When the signal is turned off, pressing the button again, the ball ramp slides back into place disengaging the locking pins. Think about twisting a dial to lock the axles together and you can picture an ELocker in operation.
I ordered this because it will help when I plow the store parking lot in the winter, especially when we get the heavy wet snow.
Nice choice Bill.
What kind of MPG does it say that it will produce?
Sweet!! I wonder though why the supercab verses crew cab? I have never rode in a cab and a half but have to wonder the usefulness of it? Very seldom has anyone ever rode in the back of my crew but I do store my fire gear in there.
I chose the supercab because I like the size better and I rarely use the rear seat area. The supercab has a full rear seat; it’s just not as roomy as the crew cab.
They don’t give a rating, but other owners report mileage in the 14-15 range. Fortunately, I won’t be putting the bulk of my miles on this truck and the other vehicles get much better mileage.
It’s the Eaton E locker we developed and tested here at work. Search you tube for some videos shot here at our proving grounds. Search “Eaton proving grounds” or “E locker”.

As promised, here are the pictures. The hood is up in one shot because our store tech was already exploring the truck.
I will be having a friend who does restoration work add the lower accent color as if this were a Lariat two-tone. But Golden Bronze is a great color all by itself. Several people at the dealership commented on how much the truck stood out in a sea of black/blue/gray/red SuperDuty’s.
The truck is fantastic to drive and the features it has may take a very long time to fully discover. A great job by Ford!
OK I’m jealous now. Nice truck. No, very nice truck.
Catvert, that’s an awesome truck; been “In Love” with them sice the first time I rolled up next to one. I could hear the faintest of “rattling” sounds, kind of like the quiet clatter that 5.4L gas V8’s from the era of my 2002 F150 makes first thing in the morning - a little “piston slap” 'til the aluminum heads reach operating temp. I thought that was weird, til I saw the emblen on the door telling all non-believers (and noobs like me) that Ford now makes one of the quietest diesel truch ehgines in history.
There was one on the lot at our local Ford dealer that stole my heart; SuperCrew, 4x4, diesel; same color as my half-ton, “Extra-Dark Moss Green” with a light argent “belt-line”. Beautiful truck. The only “unsightly blemish” is that massive chrome multi-lith that Ford uses as a grille. Would love to see one with the chrome stripped off and painted in the primary body color.
And now to respond to a (2 months;) earlier post:
I could have gotten an '03 SuperCrew when I bought my SuperCab; it was only another $1500 if I remember correctly (also had the 4.6L as opposed to my truck’s 5.4). However the most often the rear seat was used was when hauling younger Boy Scouts to summer camp. Younger = shorter, so I figured they would be fine.
On the other hand, I not only drag a horse trailer around, I often have to go “grocery shopping” for the horses. Back in the '97-‘03 era, the crew cabs and the SuperCab’s (with shorter “suicide doors” instead of full doors) sat on the same frame and wheel base. Now if you stretch the cab and extra foot but keep the bumper-to-bumper length and wheelbase the same; that 12" has to come from SOMEWHERE. And, when I’m “grocery shopping” for horses; I can fit 4 more bales of alfalfa in my 6’6" bed than can fit in a Supercrew’s 5-1/2’ foot bed.
it just made sense at the time - still does!
Very nice truck Bill! Those wheels look a little on the small size with the big fender flares. Think you can fix that
I’ve got a set of 20" chrome Moto Metal MO951’s with Nitto Terra Grapplers just waiting for spring when they will go on and the stock wheels go into storage.
