Hi, I have 69 XR7 and the headlamp knob won’t pull out enough to turn on the headlights. I have pulled on it pretty hard but I don’t want to force it and break something. Any ideas what the problem is?

Hello! It sounds like there could be corrosion in the switch that would cause the parts inside to not make contact. If you’re careful, you can remove the switch and disassemble it, cleaning the contacts inside. You could also try a non conductive lube like WD40 and spray it in there, repeatedly toggling the switch to see if it will eventually make contact.

You have some crud in the vacuum section at the rear of the switch. You will need to pull it and then drill out the rivets clean it up and then put in screws.
