I have a 1969 XR7 with tilt-away. It looks like the previous owner installed an aftermarket turn signal switch and harness. There are 3 wires taped together and not included in the actual connector. Any help on where these go? Red Brown and yellow with a black stripe
Welcome, probably a multi-use switch. Functionally the same but applicable to different vehicles. Do you have a way to confirm the wiring is correct in the connector? Wiring diagrams, old switch to compare? Are you having any other issues? If not, then tape up and secure.
Ford has multiple vehicles that have front corning lights that turn on with signal light application. Like Trixie mentioned, if everything else works, tape them up securely and not worry about them.
Don’t seem to have any other issues. I have verified the connections with a diagram and all are correct. Thanks for the input. Just finished updating the interior to LED lights. I hopefully will be back on the road this weekend.
This is a service part that also covers 1968 and early 1969 Thunderbirds.
The yellow/black stripe and the brown wires are only used on a Thunderbird.
The red wire is only used on a 1968 Cougar/Thunderbird - to provide power to the emergency warning relay (K10 on a Cougar).
When used on a 1969, these wires can be individually taped up or removed.
Note: the red wire will be hot (12V) with the ignition on!
Fantastic info. Thank you so much!
