Installing a RH (passenger side) mirror on 1967 - 1968 Cougar

I started by installing masking tape in the general area were the mirror is going. Then I measured the mirror on the driver side to locate the most forward hole. It was exactly 10" with the tape measure as far up against the wind wing as possible. Then I measured the Scott Drake mirror to achieve center to center on the holes. This allowed me to lay out the hole locations and put marks on the tape where to drill.

I pilot drilled the holes with a #30 (1/8") drill bit.

Then I drilled the holes to their final size with a 1/4" drill bit.

This put a lot of steel shavings on the top of the door.

So I used a magnet to gather up the shavings so I could put them in the trash instead of on the floor or all over the car.

With the tape removed it looked like this. Notice the holes have a sharp burr at the top.

I use a 7/16" drill bit to de-burr the holes.

Using the rivnut puller I install the two rivnuts.

I screw the mirror in place.
