AMEN
The other day I was buying blades from O’Reillys and they offered to install them. I said that was a little like having the 15 year old little girl at the grocery store carry my sack of potatoes out for me. Once I got home and hassled with them for way too long I was wishing I took them up on the offer! How can a little thing like wipers make me, an owner of an auto parts store feel so stupid!??
Lol. Well, you’re assuming they wouldn’t have struggled too.
Thanks for posting the pictures Don. I remember that younger family of yours and a few of those cars, especially the blue/blue GT-E. I should have bought that car from you.
You told me I was out of my mind for asking $15,500 for it because after-all, it still had the original paint and exhaust!
Hey Don what’s up with the mopar and what looks to be a Chevy mini van in a Ford mans driveway!! Just kidding great photos
No, I think I said I was out of my mind for not buying it. I did want an XR-7 GT-E, so that was on my mind too. Back in the day, that was a bit more cash than what I could come up with. I think we were only off by $2,000.00 to $1,500.00. I would do that $15,500.00 deal all day long now for a GT-E.
I almost bought that gold XR-7 GT-E with the 428 CJ that came to Prowl from Alberta in 1997. The old guy gave me his phone number after I helped him to get the car to run a bit better (vacuum leak). I called him a month or so later, he wasn’t feeling well and asked me to call back in a few weeks. I did but he was now in the hospital and passed away some time later. The car went to auction but sold way over my budget, so that didn’t work out either. The people that got it at auction bought it to flip it for a huge profit and eventually dropped the price to sell it a few years later.
Ah, memories. Let’s try to hang onto them as long as we can.
I have to agree with being less interest in cars from the younger generation but its far from going away just evolving into a different class of cars. This comes to mind seeing a growing trend in parting teslas and using the parts to convert other cars or build something totally custom

I think 60-70s era american iron will always have a place in alot of guys hearts young and old. I dont think it will ever die off completely with the generational interest changes. I did not grow up with these cars but I still have interest enough in owning, wrenching and driving one but I have always had interest in anything with wheels so much so I made my career on using my mechanical ability to become a professional automotive technician. A career today that I would not recommend my kids ever getting into however! My kids are still young but I make it a point to let them “play” in the garage with me whenever possible. I want to expose them to as many life skills as possible as often as possible. Even if its just fixing a toilet, I want them to have that ability. They may not like to do those things as an adult but I want them to have that ability and knowledge to take with them throughout life. I know alot of people that cant even change a tire, they just call roadside to come do it for them. Most of the time they never got taught how in the first place. Its easy to pick up a cell phone and call someone to do it. It will be interesting to see if my kids are interested in cars later in life and if so what kinda of car will that be? Todays mustangs, challengers or cameros? something electric? Should be an interesting future!
In my experience (1 Astro, 1 Safari) those GM vans were better family haulers than the Ford equivalent at the time.
Back on track, I went on the MU site and found a few things to order.
I bought the front and rear valance panels (they were still in stock separately, just not as a pair), and a set of red 67 seat covers. I still need to order the seat foam from WCCC, but with the money I saved on the seat covers, maybe I can get a dash pad too – finish up my entire interior makeover.
I bought some parts from them, unfortunately one of them was out of stock and they replaced with random stuff - got 2 assmbly manuals for 68 and a grey headliner … both very useful for my 67 pff-white parchment
The books are still useful i think, but is anyone interested by the headliner ? I do need one but not in that color …
They are easy to paint
Thanks for the heads up, R Code (Chris)!
Just got my white 70 xr7 convertible front and rear seat covers for $233 and they look great, much better than I was expecting! Also received my set of $14 each black walking cat center caps, $10 lug nuts, fuel lines and a bunch of detail stuff for my 71 429 car. Everything was delivered quickly and my order was complete. Looks like most of the good stuff is sold out.

A total shame there going out of business.
When we got our 70 in 1989 we use to live in Rhode island and use to go there on occasion to buy some parts. I did alot of over the phone orders as well since the internet was not available at the time lol… I tried going on last night and there was hardly anything on there that was really worth looking for. Seemed like it was well picked over, but i guess that goes for any place that is closing its doors. I heard they were open since 1976 and for 43 years in business that is pretty good.
Thanks

If anyone us still contemplating buying anything…DON’T!
I just received my shipment… It’s an incomplete order, one item is missing hardware (looks like a retuned item), and the valences are beat up from being placed in the same box together with ZERO packaging. What a bad way to go out…
x2. The sport seats I ordered? they only sent 1 (cancelled the other). I called for a return label, instead they credited me back for the purchase & told me to keep the seat.
What am I gonna do with 1 seat?
::starts making plans for a go-kart::
Final days… I hope we don’t end like this. They spent a lot of money on that website recently. Seems a shame just to pull the plug.
Lol. I feel ya. I ordered 5 seatbelts for another project. They sent 1 and with no hardware… Need a white seatbelt for that red seat?
I ordered a couple small things last week, should be here in the next day or two, will see what actually shows up
I guess you could look for another seat that’s the same… basically you buy one and already got one free!!
