My 1967 Cougar XR7

Thanks everyone! Excited to get this car back together. I don’t think it’s been on the road since 2017. Too long.

Engine compartment painted

Nice. Just remember to paint the part of the front fenders that goes behind the grill black as well as the orange will be visible

A couple pictures of the vinyl top and headliner installed. The black top tones down the Calypso Coral a little bit. It’s starting to go together for the final time. About time!

I was looking through my pictures and found one of my car before I started the restoration. This was back in January of 2016, right before my son was born, when I had free time. My daughter was born the following year and it’s been a blur since.

I’d just had the rear end built and was starting to cut up the floors. The cowl hats were completely gone and the floor was rotted because the carpet was constantly wet. I had it parked under a tree at my parent’s house for about 10 years during the early 2000’s. A bunch of leaves were stuck inside the cowl and it looked like dirt when I finally cleaned it out. The drivers side window was also broke which didn’t help keeping the weather out.

I got around to tearing my engine down. It was way worse than I thought, I think it’s a boat anchor. There was a wiped cam lobe and metal in the oil pan. The timing chain was stretched, a few push rods bent and the lifters are junk. The engine was already bored .030 over so sending it out to get cleaned up is probably a waste of time and money.

I did come up on some stock seats. They are in really good shape, considering the age. They probably just need some new foam and I’ll run them as is.

Thanks for the thread! Had me worried fora bit. Any news?

It’s been four years. Four years since I loaded the Cougar on a truck and sent it 2,000 miles away. Four years since the first restoration shop closed and I got my car back in pieces. Four years since I wanted to push this car off the highest cliff. The Cougar showed up last night. Back to California from Illinois looking better than ever. A huge thanks to Chris Ingrassia and Mustang Restorations Inc. I gave him an impossible task and they knocked it out of the park! Hard to believe this is the same car I bought in 1994.

Looks fantastic! Amazing what can happen with time, patience, and a bucket of $ - lol!
