New Cougar Owner (Introductions and plea for help)

Wow decarguy!
Thanks for the tip. I have an Eagle ST that I kept for a spare. They don’t make em now, and according to your expertise, it’s done gone stale on me! Safety first. I never heard or thought to inquire about that. Thanks again.
Ray.

Great first project. Welcome to the gang here.

I started on my car the first time around with my Dad when I was 14.

Nice! Thank you!

Thanks all!
So nice to meet you.

Nice car, and welcome. Enjoy the process with your kids, even if it takes 3x as long to do a particular task.

Echoing the comments about you needing 5 new tires and a set of factory shop manuals.

Welcome aboard! Looks like a great project and your in the right place here. The best way to learn about vehicles is to work on them! There is tons of info here just takes a little searching to find what you need.

These guys are right on the tires. Looks can be very deceiving and what looks like an ok tire really is a failure waiting to happen.

Thank you.
Tires. Check.

Any recommendations on a good brand of tires that would look the same?
I like the white lettering look.

I think BFG, General & Cooper all make tires in 14" that would fit.

Welcome Scott. Beautiful Cougar, perfect color! I put new BFG Radial T/As on my XR7GT earlier this year. Less than $150 a piece from Tire Rack so they won’t break the bank, and they look great on styled wheels or Magnums.

OOH! LOVE IT!

Hi Scott. It would be a good idea to sit down with the kids and have a chat about what the end goal is with the car. If you are staying stock the 14’s will be great but if you want to upgrade your brakes you may need a bigger rim. Would hate to see you have to buy new tires again in a year if you decided to do a big brake upgrade.

Thanks. I actually thought the brakes were dead… but found out that because it’s both 4 wheel DRUM brakes AND NO POWER… I just have to push down really REALLY hard to get the car to stop.

After driving it for a few days… I’m getting used to it. So, I think for now I’ll keep them (and therefore the same rims)

Sounds good. It is still good to have a bit of a long term plan for some things though. You may want to switch to an overdrive which affects rear gear choices if you were changing anything like that. Lots of us have found ourselves doing things twice because we didn’t have a long term goal or changed our minds halfway through. Good luck with the project.

Good point.

Nice thing is you can swap to stock power or manual discs pretty easy and still keep those 14s

Long term plans are great but I always change my mind half way through

Well. It happened!
Ha ha. You guys called it.

Ordered the new BF Goodrich TAs.
Should have them in tomorrow.
Hope the spare makes it there.
