I’m tired of the off idle stumble that just about every 2100 I’ve owned has always had.
I discovered a stripped bolt on the accelerator pump and decided to go ahead and tear it down to fix that. The throttle shafts are a bit worn, but I’m not sure what the threshold is where it causes problems and where it’s just the way it is.
Idle is fine, lots of vacuum and smooth.
Getting on the gas I have to give it quite a bit or it falls on its face and stumbles a lot. Since this is not a car I typically want to race around in – stock single exhaust and super quiet – I’d like to lick the stumble. As far as I know it’s a stock rebuild on the original 69 351W. Unknown mileage since rebuild, but I’ve had it for a couple of years now
I set the points with the dwell meter, timing with a combination of ear/vacuum gauge, and set the idle with the vacuum gauge as well. No signs of issues with the motor itself as the gauge is steady.
I found this thread https://cccforum.discoursehosting.net/t/sealing-up-an-autolite-2100/2228/1 but wasn’t sure if this would work as well if the throttle shafts were worn as well.
Advance is set up through the thermostatic switch. It was originally on ported vacuum when I picked it up I believe, but that was a while ago.
Anyway, thoughts on working on fixing the throttle shafts or is a little bit of clicking/wear normal enough to not worry about ?
