If memory serves, the speaker holes in the body under the package tray are 4 X 10, not 6 X 9 so you will want to purchase or make adaptors so you can install those speakers without cutting holes in the package tray.

Or, if you like, you can just drill holes (I know, the horror) to mount 6x9s under the package tray.

Obviously, the 6x9s are wider…so do you guys think the 2" narrower width of opening in the package tray will noticeably effect the sound? I’m drilling holes in my DIY shelf in the shape of 6x9, which I’m only considering because they generally sound better. It’d be stupid to do that if the obstructions defeat the sound improvement.

In my experience the difference in the shape of the openings does not affect the sound.

That’d make it easy, for sure! I haven’t found a commercially available one that doesn’t look flimsy. I’m just gonna have my son get me some lightweight ABS plastic or something and drill out a simple DIY adapter.
