Question: accelerator pedal assembly mounting bracket to firewall

I have a 1969 XR7 convertible. The mounting bracket for the accelerator pedal assembly is loose and the fastener nuts that screw into the firewall do not seem to be able to tighten. Is the solution to take fasteners out and replace with nuts and bolts or get new fasteners bolts?

Tim, You can use a “flat nut”. It is a flat piece of spring steel that act like a nut. Used them alot for this exact application. If you feel like a drive, I’ll give you some for free!!!

I do plan to drive up to your place on one of my first forays in my cougar once it is good to go. I know what flat nuts are and I have some so I will give that a try. Thanks for the advice.
