R-12 Refrigerant

Scott,

Not to mention their compressor weighs 10 lbs less! Win,win.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I’ve used freeze 12 in my 67 after repairing a leak near my condensor in 2009. I haven’t had any issues with my AC other than having to replace my belt that was worn. When I made my repair I vacuumed the system down for 8 hours and kept the vacuum on the system for 48 hours then I charged it with freeze 12. It’s still cooling well.

Freeze 12 is no longer commercially available because one of the components is an HCFC. Also, the other component is 134a and will leak out of your hoses and elastomers over time. Finally, it is not compatible with mineral oil and will not lubricate your system properly.

I guess I’m lucky. My system is still holding it’s freeze 12 charge and it’s been almost 8 years. I had the Cougar out the other day and I checked the temp at the register in the center of the dash and it was blowing 52 degrees. It was 98 degrees outside. Maybe I might have had the issues your describing if it was a daily driver.
