Tach it up, tach it up, buddy gonna shut you down

“Take it Easy”
A good cruising song.

Not sure if it was a west coast thing or?? BUT I’m pretty sure it was slang for “race” cars. The era of big displacement small bodied cars had just begun… “Shorts” were any of the cars that became “muscle cars”.[/quote]
Yeah that’s kinda what I read too.
But how how did they come up with “shorts” for the name.

LOL

Just happened to log on after you posted. May have to get out this DVD tonight. It’s snowy and pretty cold out and I’ve been listening to surf music.

Sorry, zman; “Take It Easy” is, as you said, a GREAT CRUISIN’ SONG. It’s perfect for running along around 65-70 though the rolling steppes on Highway 77 from Holbrook, AZ to a town you may have heard about… what’s it’s name… oh yeah - Winslow!

Go back and read through it again; you’re looking for the song mostly likely to cause you to get a ticket from a stoplight because you shoved your foot through the firewall and lit the tires to where they hardly stopped screaming for the whole trip through the gears, from the 2.80-something first through the 1:1 4th gear. With 4.10 cogs (this was a 4x4, remember); that’s spending a lot of time with the ol’ FE getting dangerously close to valve float.
And yes, there was a girl involved; but it wasn’t all that happy-happy. But from opening bars to end, it’s a great song for bangin’ some gears with your right foot pushing the gas pedal through the floor.

Another hint: One of the best renditions I’ve found of this song is a YouTube -obviously from an almost 30-year-old film from an open air concert- of Glen Frey doing not only the vocals but also most of the hard riffs; Randy Meisner was doing the counter melodies in this one. Plus, he opened the song and set the tone.

I’m stumped.

I have always liked The Doobie Brothers - Rockin’ Down the Highway

The Doobie Brothers were my first official concert. A couple years earlier I got to see Elvis, but I don’t count that since I was with my mom.
