I’ll get back to this eventually, but I’m currently driving the Coug pretty regularly. In a month or two when the weather turns and I can let it sit for awhile, I’ll tear into it and see what I can find.
Through the course if this thread a couple of different way to verify voltage to the coil have been suggested. I’ll start there, but I’m convinced my problem is inside the tack. Like you, I’d love to just replace it with a Rocket Man, but I’m on a budget.
If the MSD distributor is wired per their instructions, it’s sharing the Coil (+) with the coil power wire. Just like the Pertronix, this can cause issues with the factory tach. If you remove the Red MSD wire from the coil and power it with a relay, that could solve your tachometer issue.
I think I had tried that before, but since you posted the diagram I decided to give it another whirl. I jumped the distributor red (+) directly to the battery and only connected the ignition (+) to the coil. Unfortunately, no love. Thanks though.
Not yet. There are probably a couple of decent weeks of weather left, so I’m still driving it pretty regularly. Once I get a chance to tear into it, I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
2 things, if your tach is a factory one, it won’t work. They are for a points, lower volt system and electronic 12V= systems fight with them. Had to have mean converted. If it had a electronic dist when you got it and it ran, yes someone removed/bypassed the resistor wire. I had to on mine. Ran like dog poop until it did.
