Tariffs and Cougar parts

The UK deal is much more than you indicate.

The agreement is merely a “conceptual structure” with few operational details defined.

It rolls back tariffs on the first 100,000 of UK built cars exported to the US. America buys slightly more than 100,000 cars per year from the UK. So limited to no balance of trade impact.

It rolls back tariffs on UK steel and aluminum

It theoretically allows a 13 fold increase in UK beef and poultry imports from the US, PROVIDING that the beef and poultry meets very strict regulations on added growth hormones and antibiotics. Standards that very few US meat producers (less than 3%) can achieve.

I read the UK has committed to 30 787 Dreamliner orders. That is good and significant.

On the balance though, many leading trade experts expect little to no balance of payment improvements with the UK

Back to Cougars…

We will agree to disagree.

Thanks to all for being civil. This is uncharted territory for all of us.

In the meantime we got a container in that went on board when the Tariff was 45%. The ship suffered a mechanical problem and we got stuck with the 174% tariff. We are appealing it and I think we will be successful. There is a chance that the reproduction lenses for 67 and 68 standard and XR7 are on that container. They tried to stuff anything and everything they could on there.

Good luck!! Thanks for all you do.

Be thankful you got he container out. A friend has a container that has been sitting on the wharf in China since November.

I have already been in contact with the factory to see if we can get things going ASAP!!!

Well I still need one of the '67 Standard dashes and one of the '68 XR-7 dashes if you get some in. I don’t need either the lenses or the dash pad - just the left and right main dash pieces for both applications.

I just read an online news story this AM that said that our Sec of Treasury and US Trade Rep were meeting with Chinese officials in Switzerland. They have a tentative deal to suspend the major tariff increases for 90 days as I recall and it will reduce the actual tariff on Chinese products to 10% except for certain products that have are connected to fentanyl and related products. Those will have a 20% tariff. So perhaps good news is on its way. Time will tell.

Thanks Randy and I hope so, too.

Well, always read the fine print. They kept the original 2.7% and the 25% from Trumps first administration and the 20% for Fentanyl and added 10% to that. Better than the total of about 174% but still higher than what we were in March.

China still has motivation for a real final deal before the 90 day pause for negotiations expires
