The image I posted is a little confusing. The dash bezel, the base that the instruments and face pad attach to is done. What this is about is the face pad or fascia itself. Here are a couple of updated images that that show more clearly what it is that I am working on.
The complete dash fascia panel kit will include quite a bit. The panel, the aluminum trim that surrounds the panel, the lenses and trim for turn signals, High Beam, Belts, Brakes, and the trim and insert for the wiper switch. The trim will be different to accommodate 67 and 68 styles and also AC, no AC.
The fascia it self will be injection molded plastic, it will have the same shape and texture as the original but it wont crack and shrink and de-laminate the way the originals do. They will be painted the nine different colors to “match” the originals. You may have noticed two things: the existing pads are all faded, and they don’t match anything else exactly. We are going to match to the color of the original vinyl where it was covered by the trim.
Note: the trim under the AC opening should be continuous, and will be in production. In these images it was left out to show the fascia is open at the bottom like the original parts.
Okay, hold your horses but this picture came in last night. These are first article samples. Basically it just shows that we can get these out of the mold and that the flow is working. This is not as close to being done as it looks.
The dash bezels are actually not selling that well and that is concerning. It seemed like there was a lot of demand for them. I’m hoping people are waiting for the end of the season to take on the project
Interesting, was the xr7 or standard version of stronger interest? I think with some time the demand will increase. Are there still decent restorable original out there? I feel like those are very hard to find these days. Maybe those are still in circulation enough owners are still opting to try and make those work? I do not see how you can restore an original to this level for this cost. Good plastic and nice chrome plating are priceless on these. Something you just cant bring back well on the originals.
I think the price is more then fair for something like this, unlike some other repro parts these are going to better then original.
I would have a set already if mine was not painted and wrapped with aftermarket gauges…Hell I would have probably stuck with the standard set if these where a thing then. I liked the standard set styling quite alot
It’s a shame the bezels have not been selling as well as hoped. I think people have just not seen in person how stunning a fully restored perfect dash looks on both standard and XR7. As for me, just like the bezels I’ll be buying one of these face pads the minute they go up for sale.
