I have to say with all the derby’s I’ve been involved in I’ve seen some pretty creative builds. That one might be better than any of them. It certainly has to be up there on the difficulty scale.
THOSE ARE SWEET! Way to go Buckeye Boys!
Best O’ luck today boys! (Today, right?) Markus? Remind the boys, “It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s about who gets the babes!” ![]()
I think we’re still 5 weeks out for the derb…
Update: Our day was a bit of a disappointment IMO.
Not an excuse but we were running late getting there. Both vehicles made it through tech no problem. But I never gave everything a once over before submitting it.
The Head-On Crash cars was consistently slow in each heat. I didn’t expect it to be fast but it was barely making it to the end of the track. Track was not very steep but very long on the flat. Turns out that somehow one of the wheels was gummed up and it was like driving with the emergency brake on. But it still wasn’t the slowest overall. Little Brother was disheartened and wanted to go straight home.
The Jalopy Modified fared considerably better but never won a heat. 2nds and 3rds across the board.
At award time, the Head-On Crash car won Leaders Choice for most unique design. That was our goal with that car to begin with. The Jalopy Modified was built to hopefully win Best NASCAR inspired, only this year that award was not offered. So Junior came up empty. However BOTH cars were the talk of the event. People were taking pictures of those two like it was a real car show.
Time to start dreaming up next year’s I guess.
Ahhh hell. Sorry to hear that Mark! The collision inspired car was a stroke of genius… Wyle E. Coyote type stuff! Dont let the kids despair. I’m sure they did great with th ladies at the event. ![]()
Here’s to next year! :toast:
Jeeeberz… the shrubs are as messed up here as they are curbside…
:dustdustdust: :sweepsweepsweep: Cough Cough MAN! Been a while… dust has to be an inch thick on this thread!
I did not catch this last year, awesome cars Mark!
Your truck looks great. I never got that big of a chunk of wood to work with. Built these with the younger son many moons ago. Took 3rd with the formula one style.

Bumping this thread back up since it is Pinewood Derby season.
We’re not in scouts anymore. But yesterday I got involved with a friend’s car. He needed a last minute weigh-in and some weight adjustment. He brought his car by BBR&C for a once over. We scaled it and added about an ounce and a third of weight. I haven’t heard yet how he fared.
