Just received my brother’s 1968 cougar… its been sitting in a garage without being driven since 1987. Got the car running but it will only go in reverse. Fluid was added and its reading fine when hot. Any suggestions?
Welcome to the forum. I’m assuming you have a C4 transmission. The square cut seals on the clutch drums are probably petrified from sitting since '87. Do you know why the car was parked back then ? Get yourself a '68 service manual from rockauto. It’s a good thing to have at your hands. Maybe the valve body is gummed up also. I’d pull the valve body and clean it and go from there. Look up BadShoe Productions on line. The guy’s name is Ken Collins. He has videos for transmission rebuilds that you can follow along and do it yourself. Good luck with it and keep us posted.
