Unicorn 1968 Cougar Wanted

If I was interested, and after speaking with him he sounded like he would deal, and he could answer sufficiently any questions I had, I’d be bold and offer $15K. The wheels hurt this car IMHO, but thats easy to fix and they can be sold on.
I think this car should be $17K. Thats my take. , being sight unseen and you have a lot of risk there.

OK, I made contact with the dealer and was effectively told the price is the price, i.e. no negotiating.

While it looks like a really solid car (especially given its history with one of the previous owners being a full on Cougar guy), it has had some things done to it that hurt the originality, e.g. original engine replaced by a stroker, pinstripes removed, etc. Plus I’m not a fan of the Shelby wheels so when you add all that into the equation it’s not a $20K car, at least not to me.

Also the more I look around, the more I realise I really want the standard with decor trim combo rather than XR7 so I’ve just made my search that much harder…

Thanks to the Cougar community for all the leads so far - keep 'em coming and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Brian! May you find your car for the holidays and perhaps we’ll see you here soon.

Thanks Brad. I do have a '68 Mustang GT fastback on the way which should be arriving early Jan so I suppose I shouldn’t be too greedy. Hope to be back in the US within the next couple of years - the big east coast road trip is still on my bucket list!

FYI- now on eBay. Still love the paint on this one.

Yep, looks good but as per my comments 4 posts up, when I emailed the guy he pretty much said the price wasn’t negotiable and seemed fairly disinterested for a car salesman. Makes me laugh that the Ebay listing is ‘or best offer’ - so what, he’s willing to take $19,998 instead of $19,999? Also listed as ‘ships to US only’ so that cuts me out of even making an offer…

$20K is big money for a small block '68 regardless of how nice it looks (and it’s not perfect) and the wheels aren’t to my taste so there would be another $1.5K to change those over.

Well the above car is now marked as sold so I am obviously out of touch with prices on nice '68 small block autos. If $20K is the price point I will be looking for a long time…

I have seen some nice small block 68 cougars priced around $15,000. Just keep looking and the wright one will come up.

I currently have my black on red 68 XR7 on eBay. J code car automatic ps pb air. 98xxx original miles. Bought from original owners grandson. Solid car.

Hi, thanks for your message. I’ve seen your car on eBay and it’s pretty close to my spec but really after a standard decor interior rather than XR7. I know I’m being fussy but this will hopefully be my ‘forever’ Cougar so hanging out to try and get the exactly what I want.

Noticed from your pics there’s no radio and your driver’s seat will need to be re-padded. I’m also very wary of any paint bubbles anywhere near the bottoms of the doors or wheel wells. Had some on my previous Cougar and sure enough there was rust underneath.
