Hello All, Been a while since I have posted, Can anyone tell me where I might find ALL of the VIN Numbers on my baby. She is a 1969 XR-7 Convertible. Obvious ones are the door tag, the windshield tag and the buck tag on the left front fender. Is there any other places on the car that have the VIN number listed? I need to get the title reissued and the VIN number needs to be verified.
Doors can be changed easily so that VIN is not valid for registration. Heck, on a 71-73 the dash VIN comes out with the dash pad, so even that’s not very good. The best VIN is the one stamped on the shock tower, but you have to remove a fender to see it!
if you’re speculatin’ on finding a vin# any place on the lower body…it’s all BS. Rumors have circulated about a drive shaft tunnel vin number, etc. it just ain’t so. Crimped stampings occur on the inner fenders only. On post January 1, 1968 cars, you find vins on the heads or upper edges of the rear of the block and on a special boss on top of the transmission.
Date coded sheet metal is a different story. That stuff is everywhere. The date, plant shift tells quite a story on the stampings.
