I had trouble, but found out You register on ccc.com, and You ALSO have to register in the forum.
Thanks for this forum. I’m also worried that if they keep that site will have problems in the coming months. Without changes such as advertising or membership fees its not going to last long. I’ve refrained from being negative in that forum because I am more of a wait and see person. I’ll visit both sites. I’m thinking the site will stay up for a long long time, but over time there will be less attention from “Helen”. Next task, getting my profile set up on here so people know who I am.
Glad to see you here. We are still working on fine tuning the forums here so if you have any problems or issues, please let me know.
Hey OldWood, something I found is if you scroll to the very top of the page you are in and look at the left corner …click on “Classic Cougar Community Home” and it takes you to the home page.
The forums open for me in a separate window so the homepage remains open in the other window. Not sure if this is the way it is for everybody.
Thanks guys. Everything is working good for me now. I like the way it opens on a seperate page. Not sure if it was that way at first. Happy New Year!
Have been ‘out of it’ for over a week; long story. I finally started reading the “Important Announcement” thread last night; still poring through it this morning at painfully slow speed. Can’t wait for the electric service entrance to my house to be replaced so we can get the power on and move back in and get our HSI connection back. Temporarily living in an apartment down here in “2G-Land”, which reminds me of the days of dialup!
Enough of that; on to the discussion.
Wow - mercurycougar.net is now a commercial entity. I am a member of several other boards that have ‘gone commercial’; and have seen some improve, but most of them changed in not-so-good ways. Bill, it’s a very good thing that you opened this page (how many?) years ago; and those of us here now (I had to re-register due to forgetting my password or just plain inactivity) are thankful. Based on my past experiences; you can easily expect the membership to increase. Logan was an excellent custodian of mc.net’s (To use a term I heard somwhere) ‘tribal knowledge’; I fear that the growth of same will not continue as it will here. Pity that Logan did not accept your purchase offer.
Fortunately, being Cougar owners, we are an ‘adaptable’ bunch, with some strong players in our midst. Whatever the fortunes of mercurycougar.net, the Cougar faithful have no reason to worry. To steal the second half of a two-line commentary from George Carlin; “Y’know, you grow”. Let’s all just watch and see what happens…
Have you guys seen what MC.Net looks like when you are not logged in? There is a huge ad at top center of the home page, and each thread has at least one ad posted like a response. So any one new to the site, that has not registered, sees a very different view than the registered members do. I suspect that most of the members have no idea that this is occurring.
I suspect that the slowness of the MC.Net site is caused by loading all of the advertising, even if it is not displayed… I don’t know this for sure, but it seems to match the experience that I am having.
Every dollar that comes to this site will go straight back into this site and ClassicCougarCommunity.Com. I wonder how much it costs just to pay the admin at MC.Net? By the way, Jay and I are both doing this for free. Be sure to let Jay, the real brains behind this thing, know his work is appreciated.
I, for one, do appreciate the promptness of replies.
I’m sure it means a lot of work!
thank you both!
Jean
Well Bill & Jay,
I must say that you guys, have tuned this site up very nicely…its feeling like home…kinda like mcnet USED to feel!
When Logan did the last upgrade at Mcnet he kinda lost me. To me it was a upgrade that was not needed or wanted. I like it plane and simple nothing fancey.
You have now made the avitar size easier to accomplish, (thank you) made picture posting straight forward, made a way we can supply some of the funds for the site,
and set up the sticky’s to instruct us on many of the things we had questions on, ALL IN JUST A FEW DAYS. The site is looking great…keep up the great work and don’t get too fancey!! LOL
Thanks guys! We really appreciate the feedback.
Thanks, Jim! The feedback is much appreciated.
I dredged this thread up to celebrate the incredible growth the forum has had this year.
Thanks to Jay for all of his time and trouble!
And of course it isn’t a forum without the fantastic members who have made this so much fun.
