Very worn ( out ) idler arm bushing. The one that attaches to the center ( drag ) link ? I’m probably wrong though, as gauging by the coins used for a size reference the ‘mystery’ part looks a bit small.

Automatic transmission linkage bushing?

Last clue on this one…

The ‘home-made’ piece is an attempt to replicate the automatic transmission ( floor ) shifter bushings - two of them ( in black plastic are shown ).

Yeah, you really need more like one clothespin per cylinder to see much of an improvement in gas mileage! Lol!

I thought the clothespins were to reduce the possibility of vapor lock…

That could sure be the reason for them - keeps the fuel line spaced away from the hot engine!

Agree with EliminatorClone, some believed the clothes pins on fuel line from pump to carburetor would prevent vapor lock.

A heat sink of sorts…but how different in temperature could the pins possibly be from the surrounding engine compartment?

Don’t forget about “Cow magnets” taped to the fuel line!
