You mean the stainless trim that goes on the top of the door? You should be able to find these used or Don has them restored, exchange: Moulding / Trim - Door Top / Upper Door - XR7 - Passenger Side - Restored ~ 1969 - 1970 Mercury Cougar ( 1969 Mercury Cougar, 1970 Mercury Cougar ) at West Coast Classic Cougar :: The Definitive 1967 - 1973 Mercury Cougar Parts Source.
I’ll second that one…68 decore, for me, though! Drop in, affordable replacements would be a hit, I would think.
(I’ll take mine in black…)
Below is a 2004 posting from the Yahoo Groups Cougar site re the Running Cat floormat projects - it appears sales were the biggest thing holding them back it took 7 years to sell 100 sets of black mats and 25 red sets.

need
absolutly 50 sets to make a run. We have to approve a match or
close match
for material. Money would have to be collected in advance for
colors. Dark
blue was tried but we could’t get a close match for color and that
was
dropped. No further attempt was made because 25 reds were run and
they
moved and stalled at 8 sets left and moved at a snails pace after
that. I
took and payed for 1 set to hold just to help releive the burden on
the
money man who fronted the funds. That’s why I have the set. 10
sets left
$1000.00 tied up you get the picture. Black sets have been run 3
times.
That’s the most needed color. First run was 50 second and third
runs were
25. They agreeded to do this because we satisfied the first run of
It’s do-able but a list and money has to be collected. Look at
these facts
and you’ll see why vendors will not make needed parts. It’s to
risky they
can get stuck. I truly believed that given the fact that these
black floor
mates were in all Cougars 1967-8-9-70-71-72-23 we would need at
lest 500
sets right away but about 100 blacks sets were sold in 7 years?
I’ll head
it up since I own the dies and have time to look into it again.
Vendors can
be contacted and they may want to stock 4 or 5 sets. Cost would be
I’m
guessing today maybe $160 + shipping for all 4. Ford takes 7% of
retail
sale thats included. We would have to have 1 reliable person hold
money
with self addressed stamped envolopes in case it can’t be done. It
would
also take months to do these people don’t move fast. Ever try to
push a
rope? It took me 11 months just to get the dies done!!! For
those of
you who bought a set $105 of that original run was cost of
manufacture
shipping and Fords cut. The money man did not jump for joy and is
also a
club member who’s Cougars. I never made any money on this venture
I did it
for the club was repaid for cost of dies only and oh ya I needed 2
sets.
I hold those dies in name only they really belong to the CCOA in my
eyes.
Want to put some use on them? let’s do it again but with the
numbers and
the money up front and things can happen. Before anything is done
we need a
list of what colors are needed and who will order. Every one will
be able
to see day by day if enough are needed if it’s done on this list.
Ed Drozd
Ed, I would be in for a black set and possibly there is another guy in town that may need some as well. I will see if I can contact them.
Bill, I think that this could be put in a separate thread all on it’s own, with a pole to see how many are needed and in what colors to see if we can make the numbers needed.
Read more closely. That was a 2004 post.
A lot has happened since that was posted in 2004… I think that Don Rush has been in contact with Ed. I will ask him to comment on the situation. I think that there is some built up demand that might make this workable. I would put my order in for a couple of sets of Red and one in green if it would help get the ball rolling.
I would love to get a set of blue, in fact make it two seats - one driver sent - one for show. I would probably get another sent of black too for jut to keep a show sent around
The moulds are done for the mats, Ford has given their blessing, the quality is fantastic all we need is cash… I despise pre-selling so this is one of those items that would be a good candidate for a partnership with a vendor. We have been batting around ideas how to make that work logistically and legally and are exploring several ideas at present. If they were done in 3 colors I could see a need for about $30k to get the ball rolling. Anyone want to tie up $10-$30k for 2-3 Years?
Sorry your 6mos too late -I’m already indebted up to my ears for my MBA program.
We can always work out something in trade!
I assume you mean for the floor mats? Or you talking for door panels?
I would be in for two red and a black - floor mats that is.
