LMAO
31 years ago is when I started. Also before the internet, I still have the letters of correspondence from Snakeoyl.
Just wanted to update this, Don came through and found some good used belts for me and re-dyed them. Thanks Don! I guess this kinda lit a fire under him, so look for more used seat belt listings on the WCCC website.
Not only that, but it turns out that Scott Drake has come out with some really nice looking, original style reproduction black seat belts! There are various options but here’s a rear and here’s a front set with a retractor. The quality seems very good, and they have all the proper markings - the buckles have all the Robbins text on the bottom, the anchors have the JR 10 stampings, etc. There are just a couple of minor things preventing them from being truly “concours” - they don’t have the proper tags (but you could get your own custom date coded tags from Python and sew them on) and they’re also somewhat of a combination of 1968 and 1969, so not truly concours for either. The webbing has 4 sections, which is correct for 1968 but not 1969, and the shoulder belts have an elastic band sewed on, which is correct for 1969 but not 1968. But anyway, they are a great option to have now and most people probably wouldn’t care about these minor details.
All that being said, I decided to stick with original belts for now, even though they do show some wear. Here are some pics of the rears.
