12v power source

I’m trying to wire up an aftermarket tach and I’m trying to find a constant 12 volt power source on my 69 cougar. I’m not the greatest at electrical stuff. I was gonna go off my fuse panel with a fuse tap but can’t seem to find the power. Also looking for best place to wire in the light for my tach as well, was hoping to tie into my light switch. Any help would be appreciated.

In every 1969 Cougar there is a yellow wire with a three prong connector that is hot any time the ignition switch is on. That’s the place I would plug into if I needed 12V that is hot anytime the ignition switch is turned on.

Ideally, you want a RUN-only line to power the tach, but ACC power works just as well. Look for a red/green or green/red wire coming out of the ignition switch and tap into that.
I don’t recognize the wire Royce mentions (I could be wrong), but you can also use the 3 prong plug that is on the optional fuse buss extender (that’s the diagonal thingy on the fuse box) for ACC power.

Yup…that’s the optional fuse buss extender.

Unless all 3 plugs are in use already

Tilt wheel

Power windows

Cruise control

Power Windows should have its own wire with a circuit breaker at the solenoid.

Royce, This the red wire from the safety relay to the 3 plug connector.

Appreciate the info so far. My car is plain Jane as they come. No, tilt, PW’s etc.. as for the light on the tach just wire it into the light switch I guess?

It is easy to install the accessory fuse kit, picture above.

I keep them in stock. It comes with the fuse block and the yellow 3-pin plug.
