Got a question. Car is STILL in the body shop, so I’m looking at going ahead and buying wheels.
I read that with the shelby drop and drop coils that 17x8 wheels with 4.5 bs will cause problems. Does anyone know if a 17x7 wit 4.25 bs will work or be any better?
I didn’t see anything posted yet, or anything in the big wheel forum.
Thanks!
Well SvantJK I do have a few ideas.
If you look @ my car ( pic’s posted by Matt69XR7 on my Noobie from AZ thread - thx Matt. ) it appears that you and I share the same body style , and my wheels are ARE 308 Vintage Torque Thrust - 17 x 8 - with 4.5 b.s. … I do have to measure that b.s. because I have only visualized it. My challenge are the BFG KDWS tire sizes.
Front is P 245 /45 x 17 . Section Width = 9.6 in. Overall Diameter is 25.7 in.
Rear is P255 /50 x 17 . " " " " = 10.4 in . " " " " is 27.1 in. Honestly , the car looks great with those sizes.
It drives only medium great. AND , my Right Front tire has the habit of grinding the R/F fender on tight turning and driveway entries. That kind of stuff makes me crazy.
Right now , I know what it will take to make the front get 95 % better. New front tires.
P 235 / 40 x 17 . Section Width = 9.4 in. Overall Diameter = 24.4 in. 1.3 inches SHORTER and .2 inches narrower.
Rear is where my options begin.
P 245 / 45 x 17 . Section Width = 9.6 in . Overall Diameter = 25.7 in. OR
P 235 / 55 x 17 . Section Width = 9.9 in . Overall Diameter is 27.2 in. Either will work, however the 245 /45 's are 1.4 inches shorter. Hopefully when the Arizona Cougar Club gives my car a once over visually next month , they can help me make the best decision. All of these tire specifications are for the NEW BFG KDWS. ZR speed rated performance tires.
I was in the tire business for 30 years in Minneapolis so just to get this far , I have had 30 minutes of BFG fitment specialists working on the best set up for me. I spent 4 hours grilling everyone else’s spec data , and there is really no other company that gives me this many options. On modified cars it ALWAYS ends up this way.
My other disclaimer is that my suspension has about zero travel , Global West upper and lower control arm’s , Qa1 adjustable shocks , and I have no knowledge on what my spindle mfg. is. Rear end is a Currie 9 " , again , no idea on width of rear end.
I hope to have my new set of tires by mid August , and will report the results. Yikes , and Thanks . Jim
