1967 and 1968 cougar steering colum

What is the difference between a 1967 and 1968 cougar steering colum ?
Mine has a 67 steering wheel . Got thinking maybe all of it is 67 .
Can I get a 68 steering wheel and put it on a 67 column if it’s a 67 ?

While I’m on that , anyone have a good driver 68 ( it’s a xr7 if it matters )

A 1967 steering column is a solid non collapsible tube. The 1968 steering column has the new for 68 collapsible feature. If you look at the lower area of the column, just above where it meets the floor, you will either see a solid tube (67) or a ribbed cover (68). A 1968 XR-7 steering wheel will have the woodgrained rim and the center area will have a matching woodgrain to the dash face.
