1967 Cougar and parts car / one family owner / $1000 California

With all the shows and influx of orders I do not have time to facilitate the pick up of these two cars. His mother bought the gold one new, price is negotiable, comes with LOTS of parts not seen (I would like to end up with a few of them). Contact garycroan@gmail.com, south of LA. I have misplaced the pics of the parts car, it is a ratty but complete standard.

You DO mean Los Angeles and not Louisiana right?

Notice the CA black plates? What is south of Louisiana… Cuba?

Well, being originally from Lousyana, I’d say there’s an oil rig or two South of there…

So I got in touch with Gary Croan the owner of those two cougars. I asked him for his asking price but he wouldn’t give me one. He told me if I were to use them to restore another cougar he would donate them to me. Made the trip from AZ to LA and drove him around with me all day looking at his projects and all kinds of car parts for all different cars. Engine stands, sand blasters etc… finally saw the donor car and it was totally rotten. The only thing salvageable was front fenders. I then told him I was wanting to purchase the wrecked car and asked him if I could pick it up on Friday before heading back to AZ. He then tells me he wants $3,000.00 just for the wrecked one and anything else would be additional. I offered him $1,000.0 and he flat turned me down. Then he goes on to tell me that the reason he told me he would donate it to me is because he hoped I would allow him to move his motor home in my yard in az and let him work on my cars!!! First I had heard of this!!! I wasted a whole trip there and 8 hours driving around seeing all his junk that he wanted me to buy including non working printers, books, magazines etc…the guy is a total nut job!!! I highly recommend steering people away from this guy!!! I know you weren’t aware of the individual when referring him but I just want to save others the hassle and waste of time that I just went through today.

That really sucks.
And I thought entertaining car and parts buyers , that don’t buy anything was bad.
Here’s a seller tire kicker. :wall:

Wow! So sorry it turned out that way, he led me to believe that he would take $1000. He blew that opportunity, he told me he was in a pinch to liquidate fast and I told him I was tied up with the Dearborn show and such and I would pass the deal on to the community. Thank you for the update!

Wow! This confirms my suspicions I had after talking with Gary on the phone. I saw Don’s post and contacted Gary via e-mail right away. He called me later that night and I talked to him for a while. After the conversation I put together that the wrecked car was still in the possession of the body shop and was sitting in their shop yard. The “parts car” was being offered to him by the body shop for a limited time and was located somewhere in Costa Mesa. So he does not even own the parts car. He also told me he had done extensive mechanical modifications to the wrecked Cougar. He would not give me a price either. The whole thing sounded strange. I was going to go take a look at it the next day, but due to a series of unfortunate events (someone rear ended my truck) I had to cancel. I’m really sorry to hear about someone making a trip out from Arizona and wasting their time with this. I don’t blame Don, in fact I appreciate the fact he tried to pass on to others what seemed to be a good deal. I have an original 67 GT XR7 4 speed I want to restore and will be looking to Don in the near future for parts. I had been hoping to try to work out some parts trades if I had bought the 2 cars. What’s the saying? If it sounds too good to be true…

I think a deal could still be had for $1000, he called me and said the insurance claim went through so he got the big $$$ and willing to sell now for $1000. The problem, is it worth the hassle? For 3 decades I have been pulling mangy cats out of shabby neighborhoods, lots of stories! To get the car you sometimes have to endure some very interesting personalities… Gary & Mike Brown are pros at this and live somewhat close so my guess is you will see them posting the parts here soon.
