I agree Don and do want to be as original as possible, just weighing the options. Because the AC was not functional (the compressor seized), hoses were brittle, etc, coupled with a beat-up box made me evaluate the cost of new versus restoration. No decision yet.
I’m not having much luck finding a forum that address my problem but this is close. About a year ago my heater core started leaking so I replaced it. Little did I know I needed a gasket set, it’s in there but I will reduce it for I feel air all around the fan.I would always turn on the heater and the fan before and I would feel heat. Then I thought I shouldn’t have to turn on fan to use the heater right. So I turn the heater on and put temperature level to hot. I don’t hear anything or feel anything, I know there’s a little blower motor which I haven’t checked if it works but can’t imagine that making to much noise. If I turn the fan on then I feel hot air but I’m assuming that’s the heat from the motor and not the heater. No I don’t remember if it worked before I replaced the heater core for I just got motor rebuilt a few months before core went out, it was sitting 8 Yeats in my driveway. So do I need a new blower motor or is this all because I put my heater box in without the gasket kit just salvaging the old stuff, yes I’m sorry not the question to go but I just jumped into it and didn’t stop until I finished. Now I know I could do it, not a big issue but any help appreciated. Like should I hear something or feel something without turning fan on, thank you
The gasket set will make your heater work better but since you are in LA it will work good enough without it.
You always have to push the lever to open the vent door as otherwise it blocks the air flow and no heat will come out of the heater.
When the car is not moving and the fan is off, there will be no air flow to bring the heat out where you can feel it. If you drive the car without the fan on you can get heat because the car’s movement will create an air flow through the heater.
I hope this explains everything for you. So if you want heat, open the vent, set the temperature and turn on the fan.
