With the itch to work on a car (mechanic turned IT admin) I set out on a mission to find a classic in decent shape that mostly needed mechanical work. After searching for a month or so, I found this '67 XR7 stuffed in a northern NJ garage. Restored in the early 80’s and driven until about '88, the car had been sitting ever since in this garage. A challenge indeed, and a risky purchase since it did not run. A few months later and now the car is just about restored to daily driver condition. More pics to come, but here it is getting pulled out of the garage.
Hey, I’m an IT Admin looking to be a mechanic… LOL
Looks like a terrific find! It is a very good idea to replace the gas tank and lines on a car that has sat for along period. Modern gas with ethanol will disolve stuff that has bee there for 40 years. That stuff is very bad for valves and carb.
Thanks! Got that already checked off the list. The gas tank was a disaster inside and I still have the four gallons of rotten gas that came out of it because I can’t find a place to take it. I took the carb off and completely rebuilt it after a nice carb cleaner soak. She started right up after that (and an oil change of course)!
Cool find. Looks pretty straight too. Have fun w/ it.
